Painted Desert& Petrified Forest

This is the painted desert. The pictures just don't do it justice. We spent a long time looking at each of the turn outs.

The picture below is the Harvey Inn. Fred Harvey set up (inns, hotels) everywhere. He had women employees called Harvey Girls. Up to this time women were teachers or nurses. I remember seeing an old movie about the Harvey Girls. Angela Lansbury was in the movie.
Petrified Wood. The logs were enormous. The ranger station said that they loose about one ton a month due to people picking up the petrified wood. We spent the night in Holbrook, AZ where Route 66 went through. There are stretches of Rt 66 here and there. We had dinner at the Mesa Italian Restaurant and I had the most delicious Eggplant Parmesan.
