Today we had a Navaho guide for a tour down into Canyon de Chelly (pronounced Shay) on a jeep. the floor of the canyon is sand and tracks to drive in are about 10 to 12" deep. You had to have a four wheel drive vehicle with high clearance. The walls of the canyon are 700 ft. up. After we had our tour we then drove to the lookouts at the top of the canyon. Our guide had a lot of Navaho lore to tell. The third picture shows an Anasasi ruin. There were many of these in the canyon. The bottom picture was taken from one of the overlooks looking down into the canyon. We are having a great time and will head to Monument Valley tommorrow. The scenery here is spectacular.
